Definition
This measure follows WordPress plugins first listed on WordPress.org in the report month. It records which active-install buckets they had reached by the end of that month. It also states how many of that month's new listings had entered the top 12,500 plugins within the same window. The group followed is fixed to plugins listed inside that one month.
Population and window
Rivale measures this for plugins first listed in the report month, with standing taken at the last day of that month. The population is defined by listing date. It is not defined by membership in the top 12,500 plugins or the whole directory. A new group of plugins is defined for each report month.
How it is computed
The group is every plugin whose WordPress.org listing date falls in the report month, followed to the end of that month. Install counts are bucketed by WordPress.org, so a plugin is recorded as crossing into the 10+, 100+ or 1,000+ bucket rather than reaching an exact count.

The install buckets follow WordPress.org's own bucketed groups, set by WordPress.org rather than by Rivale. A plugin is recorded as crossing into a given install bucket, not as reaching an exact install count. Read it beside entries into the top 12,500 plugins to see how many of a month's new listings went on to reach a measurable rank. Read it beside plugins by install size for the wider directory context those buckets sit inside. Comparing outcomes across report months can show whether one month's new listings crossed buckets faster than another's.
What it is not
This measure does not give an exact install count for any plugin, only the bucket it had crossed into by month end. It does not track a plugin's path beyond the end of its first listing month. It does not include plugins first listed in any earlier month. It is not a measure of plugin quality, only of install buckets crossed and entry into the top 12,500 plugins within one month. It also does not state how many of the month's new listings crossed no bucket at all.
