The trailing year, as a series of full weeks.

Weekly download counts published on each plugin listing, summed across the population. Downloads include updates, so a release adds downloads from the existing install base. Definition page

The sum of downloads across the plugins that use the tag. “Gained the most” and “lost the most” are ranked by downloads, not by percentage. A tag is included when at least 100 of the top 12,500 plugins use it. The rule is the same in every issue. Most tags on WordPress.org are used by fewer than five plugins. Plugins are placed in groups by popularity rank at the end of the prior month, then within each rank by release count in the report month, 0, 1 to 2, or 3 or more, then the median download change is taken within each group. Each plugin's rank on the later date is compared with its rank on the earlier one. A plugin moves up when its rank number falls. The median move is the middle value of the number of places moved, ignoring direction, within each rank group. Some plugins leave the top 12,500 during the month. Rivale compares the tier shown at the end of the previous month with the tier shown at the end of the report month for every plugin in the top 12,500, counts those that moved up and those that moved down, and names the largest of each.
