The first issue of The Rivale Diff is live.
What’s the Rivale Diff, in a nutshell?
The Rivale Diff is Rivale’s monthly report on the WordPress plugin market. Rivale works through what the public WordPress.org directory shows next to the intelligence it gathers on its own, so several measures in the Diff exist in no other report.
Every figure names the plugins and the dates it was measured on.
What you’ll find in this issue
Issue 1 covers August 2026 (against July 2026). A few stats and numbers from it:
- 65.9M downloads across the top 12,500 plugins in the week of 17 August, the highest week of the trailing year.
- 1 in 2 of the top 1,000 plugins released an update in August. Among plugins ranked 5,001 to 12,500, 15% did.
- 2,444 new plugins were listed on WordPress.org for the first time in August. By 31 August, none had reached 1,000 installs.
- 33 of the top 100 plugins had not declared WordPress 7.1 support twelve days after its release.
The issue also names the plugin with 60,000 installs that dropped out of the top 12,500, the plugin that lost 24 reviews in August, and three top-100 plugins that still had not declared WordPress 7.1 support by the end of the month.
